As many of you know, my husband Steve Pastis is writing for the Visalia Times Delta. Recently, he penned an inspiring piece on the New Year’s resolutions of local leaders. You can read it here.

This got me thinking about resolutions and goal-setting. While I’ve never been one for traditional New Year’s resolutions, I believe in setting short-term goals and taking actionable steps towards them. But, like many of our small business customers, I find myself spending most of my days responding to customer requests and concerns.

So, how can we all be more proactive in our businesses this year? Here are some steps and goals to help us get ahead:

1. Schedule Regular Check-Ins: Set aside time each week to review your business goals and progress. This will help you stay on track and adjust your strategies as needed.

2. Anticipate Customer Needs: Think ahead about what your customers might need before they even ask. Offering proactive solutions can enhance customer satisfaction and loyalty.

3. Invest in Learning and Development: Stay updated with the latest industry trends and technology. Attend webinars, read articles, and invest in training to keep your skills sharp.

4. Set SMART Goals: Ensure your goals are Specific, Measurable, Achievable, Relevant, and Time-bound. This will make them more tangible and easier to accomplish.

5. Automate and Streamline: Use tools and software to automate routine tasks. This will free up your time to focus on strategic activities and proactive customer interactions.
